How Indian Oil Quadrupled Fuel Supply for Armed Forces During Operation Sindoor: Insights from a Senior Official

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) recently played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor, ensuring fuel was supplied seamlessly to the Indian armed forces. Rakesh Kumar, the Chief Terminal Manager of IOC, noted that the demand for fuel surged by four times.

To meet this increased need, IOC mobilized vessels from its refineries in Paradip and Haldia. Kumar stated that when the Indian Navy required additional fuel, they were able to reposition these vessels within three days. This quick response highlights IOC’s strong coordination with defense forces, which occurs on a near-daily basis. They hold weekly meetings to align on supply needs and planning.

Visiting the Indian Oil POL Terminal in Port Blair, Kumar discussed emergency protocols for fuel shortages or natural disasters. He confirmed that the terminal has enough supplies on hand to cover 25 days’ worth of products, ensuring readiness for unforeseen events.

Additionally, IOC has plans to expand its services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Kumar mentioned that they are seeking new land in Hope Town for a bottling plant, which will enhance their operational capacity in this challenging logistical environment.

V. Ranganathan, Chief General Manager from the West Bengal State Office, shared insights on the difficulties of logistics and product availability in Port Blair. Despite these challenges, IOC’s commitment to maintaining a reliable fuel supply continues to grow.
