How Indigenous Armoured Vehicles and ATVs are Transforming Indian Army’s Role in UN Missions: Insights from the Deputy Army Chief

New Delhi (ANI) – India is stepping up its commitment to United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, recently shared how the Indian Army is enhancing protection and logistics for its troops, focusing on self-reliance through indigenous technology.

The push for modernization aims to strengthen the safety and efficiency of Indian peacekeepers, known for their iconic blue helmets. “Our upgrades are part of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, ensuring our peacekeepers are well-equipped for demanding missions,” he explained.

To improve mobility and operational capabilities, the Army has rolled out new platforms. These include advanced vehicles like the Kalyani M4 Armoured Vehicles, designed for enhanced blast resistance, and the Sherp All-Terrain Vehicles, perfect for rugged terrains.

Logistical support is also crucial. Lt Gen Kapoor emphasized the importance of timely supply deliveries, especially during emergencies. “We now utilize chartered cargo aircraft to quickly deliver essential supplies like medicines and spare parts,” he noted.

These efforts don’t just make transport easier; they contribute to a larger strategy ensuring Indian troops are always ready for action. “Our new platforms and systems enhance protection and greatly expand our operational reach,” he said.

India has a proud history in peacekeeping. With over 290,000 peacekeepers deployed in more than 50 missions, India plays a vital role in fostering global security. As of March 9, more than 5,000 Indian peacekeepers are ongoing missions, often in challenging environments.

A recent report from the United Nations highlighted that Indian peacekeepers have consistently ranked among the top contributors to UN missions. This reflects India’s commitment to international peace, leveraging experience and modernization to adapt to the changing landscape of global security.

Overall, these advancements not only empower Indian peacekeepers but also align with global efforts to maintain peace and security in crisis zones worldwide.
