James Van Der Beek recently shared a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Kimberly, marking their 15th wedding anniversary. He reflected on her unwavering support during his battle with Stage 3 colorectal cancer, diagnosed in 2023.
“Fifteen years ago today, this woman agreed to be my bride,” Van Der Beek wrote. He emphasized Kimberly’s remarkable strength and love, saying, “You have not only saved my life… you’ve shown me what it is to live.”
Their relationship began in 2009 when they met during a trip to Israel. They tied the knot in August 2010 and now have six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah. It’s a busy life filled with both joys and challenges.
Van Der Beek’s openness about his health struggles resonates with many. He described his cancer journey as a “full-time job,” signifying how it occupies much of his daily life. With 153,000 new colorectal cancer cases expected in the U.S. this year, as reported by the American Cancer Society, the need for awareness and support is crucial. Early detection is key, which is why health experts recommend regular screenings, especially for those over 45.
Additionally, James and Kimberly have shared their experiences with loss, including five miscarriages, showcasing the strength of their partnership. Kimberly spoke about these difficult times, highlighting how they have weathered many storms together.
In the face of adversity, their love story continues to inspire. Van Der Beek expressed, “Your bravery, tenderness, and unwillingness to settle… You’re the best human I know.”
As they navigate their journey, the couple remains a beacon of hope and resilience for others facing similar challenges.
