How Jessica Simpson’s Musical Comeback After Her Husband’s Split Transformed Her Life

Jessica Simpson is making a return to music with her new EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1. This marks her first collection of songs in 15 years, coinciding with her recent split from Eric Johnson. The first single from the EP, “Use My Heart Against Me,” has already been released.

In a conversation with People, Jessica shared how the process of making this album helped her heal. “I got thrown a real twist of fate in the middle of making this record,” she said. “My heart was completely broken. I had to focus on the music. Thank God, I had Nashville.”

Simpson described songwriting as a form of therapy. “Having this creative outlet, it’s like your heart breaks and you go into a songwriting session. I always thought it was cheesy when people said music saved their life, but it truly saved mine.”

She began working on Nashville Canyon in the fall of 2023, collaborating with talented artists like Fancy Hagood, Natalie Hemby, Lucie Silvas, and Trent Dabbs. The EP is set to drop on March 21 and is her first musical project since the 2009 holiday album, Happy Christmas.

On Instagram, Jessica reflected on her journey, saying, “Music makes you un-become to become, and through this process my soul has been pulled to the very place it belongs. To the girl I was, I love you. To the woman I am, I am proud of you. To the woman I am becoming, I am excited for you… let’s do this… it’s GO TIME.”

She expressed how storytelling through music drew her back after years away. “The songs speak for themselves,” she remarked. “The music really does the talking.” Jessica’s journey back to music shows her resilience and the powerful healing that creativity can provide.
