MARTINSBURG — It was a memorable night for Central High School’s boys basketball team. Senior guard Eli Muthler scored his 1,000th career point during a big 60-35 win over Bellwood-Antis.

The milestone moment came with just over three minutes left in the first half when Muthler sank a shot close to the basket.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Muthler said. “I definitely couldn’t have achieved this without my teammates and coaches.”

He was the top scorer of the game, finishing with 25 points, including six three-pointers. “We moved the ball well as a team. Making shots felt great,” he added.

Muthler has been an essential player for the Scarlet Dragons throughout his time at Central. His contributions have helped the team maintain a solid performance each game.

“Eli has been vital to our success,” said Central coach Paul Frederick. “His work ethic is impressive. I feel lucky to have coached him for four years.”

In the first half, Central dominated the court, leading 34-13 at halftime. Eli’s younger brother, freshman Jesse Muthler, scored eight points during this period.

“Everyone played well tonight,” Eli said. “We all enjoy sharing the ball. Our consistency is key.”

Jesse was thrilled to witness his brother’s achievement. “He put in so much hard work. We’ve been playing together since we were little, and seeing him reach this milestone is really special,” he said.

On the other hand, Bellwood-Antis is still looking for its first win this season. Coach Tyler Mertiff acknowledged the challenges ahead. “We’re focusing on building for the future. We’re a young team, learning how to win, which is tough in this league.”

Despite their tough record, the effort from the Bellwood-Antis players hasn’t wavered. Three players — Colin McClellan, Connor Mayes, and Braylon Litzinger — each scored six points in the game. “I never question their effort,” Mertiff said. “Win or lose, I pride myself on our commitment until the final whistle.”

Central will host Bald Eagle Area on Friday night, while Bellwood-Antis will take on Bishop Guilfoyle Academy on the same evening.
