Jessica Simpson is back with her new EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, releasing this week. She shares the personal stories behind her music in a recent interview.

At 44, Jessica faced a big twist while creating this album. “My heart was completely broken,” she says. “But I needed to keep my focus on the music. Thank God for Nashville.”
In January, she and her husband of ten years, Eric Johnson, announced their separation. They share three children: Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5. In her statement, she emphasized, “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.”
Reflecting on this challenging time, she says, “I’ve been through the darkest moments, yet I found light in unexpected ways. I’ve grown and learned how strong I am.”
In Nashville, Jessica discovered healing by diving into her music. “Songwriting felt like therapy,” she explains. “I used to think it was cheesy when people said music saved their lives, but that’s exactly what happened to me.”
Her new EP, which is her first in 15 years, features five tracks blending soul and rockabilly. The first single, “Use My Heart Against Me,” was released on Friday. She describes it as a fun, sexy song born from her journals, which she shared with her co-writers.
This EP reflects Jessica’s most personal work to date. “I knew I needed to share music from a soulful place, connecting to my roots,” she says. She’s excited about what lies ahead, expressing how storytelling in music is what captivates her most: “The songs speak for themselves.”
Jessica Simpson is ready to share her journey through music once again, marking a new chapter in her life and career.
