Lucknow recently celebrated the inauguration of the ‘Nausena Shaurya Vatika,’ a unique naval museum designed to honor the Indian Navy’s history and achievements. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the significance of this facility, stating that it serves as a source of pride for both the local community and the nation.
During the ceremony, Singh shared insights on Operation Sindoor, which took place in May 2025 as a response to a terror attack in Pahalgam. He noted that the Indian Navy played a crucial role in keeping the Pakistan Navy at bay during this operation, demonstrating strategic strength and preparedness. “The Navy was actively deployed in the Arabian Sea, ensuring Pakistan’s Navy remained docked,” Singh remarked.
The Nausena Shaurya Vatika isn’t just for tourists; it’s also an educational center. It aims to inspire future generations about the values of freedom and security. Singh emphasized how maritime security affects everyone, regardless of whether they live near the coast or inland.
The museum features the decommissioned INS Gomati, linked to the city as the ship’s crest incorporates the iconic Chhatar Manzil. Singh used this connection to illustrate the historical ties between Lucknow and the Navy.
Experts agree that expanding locations like the Nausena Shaurya Vatika can enhance national pride and education on military history. According to a recent survey, 67% of citizens believe that understanding military achievements fosters a sense of community and national identity.
Singh also spoke about India’s advances in defence production, noting that the country’s export value has grown significantly since 2014, now reaching nearly ₹40,000 crore. This growth underscores a broader trend in India’s military readiness.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was present at the event, highlighted the state’s transformation from being associated with crime to promoting economic initiatives like “One District, One Product.” Singh praised these changes, noting how they have made the state a more attractive place for investment.
In the future, Singh expressed a desire to add a submarine to the museum’s collection, which could further engage visitors. He stated, “This facility will become an important landmark in Lucknow, drawing interest from all over.”
The Nausena Shaurya Vatika stands as a testament to bravery and national pride, making it more than just a museum; it’s a reminder of the sacrifices made for the safety and security we enjoy today.
