LAKEVILLE — The ballroom at Oak Point buzzed with excitement on Saturday, May 10, as residents gathered for “Oak Point’s Got Talent,” a lively showcase organized by the community’s Car Club.
This talent show was not just about the performances; it raised an impressive $3,949 for the Sacred Heart Food Pantry through ticket sales, donations, and a raffle. With ticket prices set at $10, every one of the 310 seats was sold ahead of time, bringing in $3,189. The event also featured a 50/50 raffle, which generated an additional $1,120. In a heartwarming gesture, winner Sue Dooley-Curran donated $200 of her $560 winnings back, boosting the total raised for the food pantry.
The show was a true community effort. Car Club Vice President John Finiello led the organization, while Louanne Boari expertly handled ticket sales. Steve Lunetta provided sound support during rehearsals, and Paul Gallant managed stage operations. Bob Steidinger and Dave Clay were there to ensure everything ran smoothly.
“This was truly a team effort!” Sylvia expressed in an email, capturing the spirit of collaboration.
All performers, who were Oak Point residents, dedicated weeks to perfecting their acts. They even covered their own costs for costumes and props to ensure as much money as possible went to the food pantry.
On May 17, Sylvia and Finiello proudly presented a check for $3,949 to David Cunningham, the Director of the food pantry. Events like this not only provide entertainment but also highlight the importance of community support, especially during tough times.
In recent years, community fundraisers have seen a resurgence, often driven by local social media trends. According to a 2022 survey by the Nonprofit Council, 83% of respondents believe that local events bring people together and strengthen community bonds. It’s clear that Oak Point is no exception, showcasing the power of teamwork and generosity in action.
