BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – When Memphis men’s basketball needed a boost, Sincere Parker didn’t just step up; he exploded with a stunning career-high of 40 points. This performance helped the Tigers secure a 90-80 win over UAB at Bartow Arena, improving their record to 11-11 overall and 6-4 in the American Conference. UAB fell to 14-9 with a 5-5 conference record.
Parker was on fire, hitting 14 of his 20 shots and making six of eight three-pointers in just under 26 minutes of play. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.
From the start, Parker made his mark, scoring 16 points in a rapid four-minute span during the first half. He went into halftime with 22 points, and Memphis led 44-35. In the second half, UAB made a push and got close. But every time they threatened, Parker responded. He had another 11-point run, including deep threes and drives to the basket to extend the Memphis lead back to 70-61.
The Tigers showcased their offensive prowess, shooting 52.4% from the field overall, and assisted on 15 of their baskets. They led for more than 34 minutes and never trailed after taking the lead midway through the first half.
Aaron Bradshaw contributed with 12 points and six rebounds. Thierno Sylla had nine points and a season-high eight rebounds, while Curtis Givens III added eight points. The depth of Memphis was evident; they outscored UAB’s bench 59-28.
Memphis effectively turned defense into offense, scoring 21 fast-break points and forcing UAB into 13 turnovers that produced 12 points. UAB’s Chance Westry led his team with 15 points and six assists.
Parker’s impressive 40-point night is notable for several reasons. He became only the 12th player in Memphis history to score 40 points in a game. Remarkably, he is the first Division I player since at least 1996-97 to achieve this while shooting 100% from the free-throw line in 26 minutes or less, showcasing his efficiency and skill.
The Tigers’ shooting stats are encouraging. They’ve now logged eight or more three-pointers in ten games this season. However, they also need to address their turnovers; 16 turnovers given up to UAB resulted in 25 points.
This game marks Memphis’ second road victory this season and extends their winning streak against UAB to five games. As they prepare to face Charlotte on Super Bowl Sunday, the energy from Parker’s performance could be a key for the Tigers moving forward.
