How Phoenix Catholics Are Responding to Pope Francis’ Health Concerns: Insights and Reactions

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — At Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral in Phoenix, many parishioners are deeply concerned about Pope Francis. Each day, they turn to their faith, praying for his health.

After Sunday mass, volunteers gathered for a heartfelt prayer in Spanish. One parishioner expressed, “We ask you, Lord, for good health for the pope. Please let everything be okay because we need a spiritual guide for the world.”

Pope Francis has been in the hospital for over a week due to pneumonia. The Vatican reported he is in critical condition and facing early kidney failure, although he remains alert.

Support and prayers for the pope have come from all corners of the world. Natalie Tung, a parishioner, noted, “This shows the unity across the church. It doesn’t matter if you’re conservative or liberal. Everyone is praying for our pope. He’s our leader, and we’re all keeping him in our thoughts.”

Since becoming pope in 2013, Francis has made history as the first Latin American pope. This connection is especially strong among the mostly Hispanic congregation at Saints Simon and Jude. Martin Casarez, a volunteer, shared, “We feel devoted to him because he understands our culture.”

The Diocese of Phoenix released a statement highlighting Pope Francis’s dedication: “He has been a tireless shepherd, leading the Church with compassion and humility. We lift him up in prayer, asking the Lord for his strength and healing.”
