Spam calls are on the rise worldwide, even with efforts from governments and tech companies to curb them. Samsung’s upcoming smartphones might bring some relief, as they’re likely to include Google’s spam call detection feature.
According to a recent report from Android Authority, the Galaxy S26 series will be the first non-Pixel phones to use this Scam Detection feature. References to this capability were found in the latest Phone by Google app update, alongside the codename “Sharpie,” which is used internally by Google.
On devices like the Pixel 9, this feature employs an AI model called Gemini Nano. This advanced technology helps recognize and block spam calls effectively. Given that the model numbers of the Galaxy S26 series appeared alongside those of the Pixel 9, it suggests that Samsung’s new lineup will also utilize this AI tool.
The spam detection relies on an app called Android CallCore, which you can find on the Play Store. Recent updates have allowed it to identify spam calls more accurately. Log files from the Galaxy S26 Ultra show that it already supports this app.
This approach could enhance privacy compared to third-party apps like TrueCaller, which often require more personal data to operate effectively.
However, it’s still uncertain if this spam call feature will be available globally or limited to specific regions. More details should emerge when Samsung announces the Galaxy S26 series next month.
Interestingly, a recent survey by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reported that 45% of Americans received spam calls in the last month alone, highlighting the urgency of solutions like Samsung’s upcoming tech.
