Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently expressed strong support for the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement. He described it not just as a trade deal but as a sign of India’s growing influence and economic strength on the world stage.
Speaking to reporters, Chouhan highlighted the agreement as a significant step that deepens the ties between India and the EU. Indian agricultural exports stand to benefit the most, including products like tea, coffee, spices, and various processed foods. These goods will now have better access to European markets.

Chouhan also introduced initiatives like the ‘Viksit Bharat-G-Ram-G Act,’ aimed at transforming villages into developed communities, ensuring that rural India is included in the overall progress of the nation.
Experts believe that such international agreements could play a crucial role in addressing food security challenges, especially considering that India is expected to face climate-related impacts on agriculture in the coming years. In fact, a recent report showed that climate change could reduce crop yields by up to 30% by 2050 without proper interventions.
