U.S. Wheat Industry Backs Food for Peace Program

U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) and the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) are excited about new legislation that aims to bring the Food for Peace program under the USDA’s guidance. This initiative is supported by several Representatives and Senators, such as Tracey Mann from Kansas and Rick Crawford from Arkansas.
“Farmers in the U.S. take pride in helping to feed families worldwide,” said Vince Peterson, President of USW. “Moving Food for Peace to the USDA allows for better food distribution and ensures that the expertise of American farmers reaches those in need.”
USW and NAWG have often emphasized the importance of providing actual food aid rather than just cash donations or buying food from other countries. They believe that American-grown food is essential for effective assistance.
Chandler Goule, CEO of NAWG, echoed this sentiment: “This legislation will not only help U.S. farmers but also tackle hunger globally. The Food for Peace program buys over a million metric tons of food yearly, helping millions in the world’s poorest regions. With USDA in charge, this long-standing program can be more efficient while supporting American agricultural policies.”
This change is set to enhance food distribution and ensure that those who rely on aid receive nutritious options from U.S. producers.
