Setting it up was a breeze. I attached the antenna to its base and connected it to the hub using the included USB cable. Within minutes, Home Assistant detected it, allowing me to create a new network or migrate devices from an existing Z-Wave network quickly.
Practical Applications
For my initial trial, I set up a Zooz Z-Wave LR smart plug to control fans in my chicken coop, located about 50 yards away. The setup was simple. Using the QR code on the plug, I onboarded it quickly and set it up. Despite being distanced by two brick walls, the response was instant.
Next, I tested a Zooz water leak sensor in my attic. Given that sub-GHz protocols like Z-Wave consume less power than Wi-Fi, the battery life on the sensor should last considerably longer.
User Experience and Reliability
So far, the ZWA-2 has improved the connectivity of my devices remarkably. Although I can’t comment on its long-term reliability just yet, the initial performance has been promising.
