This shift has led to a rise in lifestyle hotels, which cater to these desires. According to a report by JLL, lifestyle rooms in new hotels have nearly doubled since 2000. By 2025, 25% of new hotel rooms in Europe will be lifestyle options, followed by 16% in the Americas and Asia.

Lifestyle hotels stand out because they offer a unique and personalized experience. While boutique hotels are often independently owned, lifestyle hotels are usually part of larger chains. In the Asia-Pacific region, the demand for lifestyle hotels has skyrocketed. Room availability has quadrupled from 2014 to 2024, with a further growth of 34% expected by 2027. China leads in lifestyle hotel numbers, closely followed by Southeast Asia.

These hotels tend to be smaller and focus more on social spaces than just comfortable rooms. As Sylvain Pasdeloup from Ennismore notes, guests are looking for more than a place to sleep; they want an experience that resonates with them. This trend is particularly strong among younger travelers, who are spending more on their trips than previous generations. Research shows that Generation Z and millennials are keen on travel experiences that reflect their lifestyles and values.

Moreover, lifestyle hotels not only attract more guests but also generate higher revenue from food and beverage sales, about 30% more per occupied room than the market average. This financial advantage makes them appealing to investors.

The lifestyle hotel market is evolving. Brands once considered premium are now reaching into midscale categories. Ten new lifestyle hotel brands are expected to debut in the Asia-Pacific by 2027, including Mama Shelter, which recently opened in Singapore.
