Meet Bentley and Kadar Waller, two brothers who shine on the basketball court and in the kitchen. They play for Cal State University Bakersfield and also run a soul food cart called Bentley Bowls. Their culinary journey began during the pandemic when they spent time experimenting with family recipes.

“Our grandparents and my aunt, a professional chef, inspired us,” Bentley shared. “She taught us the secrets of soul food.”
With encouragement from family, they transformed their passion for cooking into a business venture. “We dreamed of having a food truck, and eventually, we made it happen,” Kadar explained. “We created a plan and stick to it day by day.”
Balancing school, basketball, and running a business is no easy feat. “It can be tough. Building something from scratch requires hard work and dedication,” Kadar admitted. “We’re fortunate to have a supportive team at Bentley Bowls who helps us whenever we can be there.”
Their efforts are rewarded when they see happy customers. “Bakersfield has room for more soul food,” said Rebecca Esparza, a satisfied customer. “Whenever I see a place serving Louisiana-style dishes, I’m eager to try it!”
“Getting booked every day and almost selling out means everything to us,” Bentley said. “We appreciate the community’s support.”
