Howard Payne University Celebrates Record-Breaking Generosity: A Community United in Giving!

HPU Student Group

BROWNWOOD – Howard Payne University (HPU) had an exceptional fundraising year, bringing in over $12.39 million from June 2024 to May 2025. This is the largest amount the university has ever raised in a single year.

A significant portion of these contributions, nearly $6 million, went towards campus upgrades. Projects included the new Ben and Bertha Mieth Outdoor Pavilion and Woody and Miki Martin Sand Volleyball Courts. Additionally, more than $800,000 was earmarked for academic programs, particularly benefiting the Center for Student Success and the School of Nursing. HPU also secured $549,000 to enhance Yellow Jacket athletics, improving the student-athlete experience. Furthermore, $4.2 million was dedicated to student scholarships, making quality education more accessible.

Dr. Dale Meinecke, vice president for advancement, expressed gratitude for this outpouring of support. “These funds allow us to enhance the student experience outlined in our strategic plan. We’ve improved academic support, increased scholarships, and transformed spaces for learning,” he shared.

Looking back, HPU has seen more than $36 million in donations over the past five years. In this period, over $20 million has been invested in campus enhancements, including renovations to residence halls, academic buildings, and the new Newbury Family Welcome Center. These changes aim to provide better services and scholarships to students.

Dr. Cory Hines, the university president, mentioned, “This past year has been remarkable, and we believe even greater days are ahead. We thank everyone for their generosity and have a great vision for HPU’s future.”

This trend of increased donations is part of a broader movement at educational institutions, where alumni and supporters are more actively engaged in funding initiatives that enhance student experiences. According to a recent survey by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), 86% of universities reported a rise in giving in the last year, reflecting a renewed commitment to higher education.

It’s exciting times for HPU and its community. As the university continues to grow and improve, the support from alumni and friends remains critical for its transformation.
