Howard University Women’s Tennis Faces Tough Challenge at Stetson: A Closer Look at the Match Highlights

DELAND, Fla. (March 3, 2025) – The Howard University women’s tennis team faced a tough match against Stetson, ending in a 6-1 loss. This defeat brought their record to 4-4 and halted their four-match winning streak.

In doubles, senior Sifa Butcher from Pembroke Pines, Florida, and sophomore Lauren Oliver from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, put up a good fight in the No. 3 spot. They managed to win against Clelia Lombardi and Audelie Lesauvage from Stetson, finishing with a score of 7-6 (7-2). However, Stetson secured the early lead by winning the other two doubles matches.

In singles play, sophomore Ava Chambers from Wellington, Florida, scored Howard’s only point. She beat Lombardi in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Unfortunately, Stetson dominated the rest of the singles matches, winning all five in straight sets.

Howard now has a break before their next match against Cornell on Saturday, March 15, at 3 P.M. This match will take place at Banneker Recreation Center in Washington, D.C.
