Hulk Hogan Takes the Helm: Exciting New Role as Commissioner of Real American Freestyle Wrestling!

Hulk Hogan believes he’s onto something big. Inspired by the NCAA Division I wrestling championships, he’s diving into the world of freestyle and folkstyle wrestling, driven by a vision that has recently taken off.

Last month, Oklahoma State’s Wyatt Hendrickson delivered a stunning upset against Minnesota’s Gable Steveson, an Olympic gold medalist, by securing a national title in heavyweight wrestling. The moment got a boost when Hendrickson celebrated with President Donald Trump, making waves in the wrestling community and beyond.

With all eyes on wrestling, Hogan is poised to launch Real American Freestyle, a new league aimed at elevating the sport and providing better earning opportunities for its athletes. He’s excited about the timing and believes the sport is ready for a fresh start. “When I saw that happen, I thought we’re on track. I smell victory,” Hogan said.

Initially, Hogan worried that freestyle wrestlers might lack the charisma to draw crowds. But after connecting with them, he felt reassured. “They’ve got that edge,” he explained. “These kids are smart, know branding, and have that Conor McGregor swagger.”

The league will host single matches across eight men’s and four women’s weight classes, starting August 30 in Cleveland. Interest in wrestling is growing in the U.S.; the women’s Olympic freestyle team brought home four medals in the 2024 games, while boys’ and girls’ participation in wrestling reached record levels in 2023 and 2024.

Hogan has enlisted standout wrestlers like Kennedy Blades, who won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, to lead the women’s division. He’s also eyeing potential star matchups, raising excitement about possible rematches like that of Hendrickson and Steveson.

With sponsorship from his own Real American Beer, Hogan has strong backing, including Chad Bronstein, co-founder of the league, and Left Lane Capital, known for innovative sports ventures. Though some may be surprised by Hogan’s shift from pro wrestling, he believes it’s an exciting opportunity to support young talent.

“Wrestling is wrestling, brother,” Hogan stated, emphasizing the significance of this new path. Thanks to evolving name, image, and likeness deals, college athletes can compete without jeopardizing their collegiate status.

Hogan has also brought Eric Bischoff, a key figure from his wrestling past, on board as the chief media officer. Together, they aim to innovate the production side of the league, propelling it ahead of traditional methods.

Still, Hogan underscores the importance of bringing in talent that understands competition. “I couldn’t sit back anymore,” he said. “I had to get involved with these powerful athletes and help make them stars.”

With the league poised for action, wrestling fans can expect fresh energy and compelling matchups that might redefine the sport’s landscape.
