Huskers Uproar: Epic Sweep Against No. 6 Stanford Shakes Up Rankings!

Nebraska’s volleyball team showed its strength in a recent match against Stanford, dominating with a 3-0 victory. The match, held at Pinnacle Bank Arena, drew a full house of 15,734 fans.

Right from the start, the Huskers displayed a powerful offense, hitting an impressive .385 percentage. They never fell behind after the third point in any set. In contrast, Stanford struggled, finishing with just .094 hitting percentage, including a dismal .000 in the final set. Nebraska’s solid defense was key, contributing nine blocks and limiting Stanford’s scoring options.

Head coach Dani Busboom Kelly praised her team’s energy and ability to have fun on the court. She emphasized the importance of setting a high standard for themselves—”Today wasn’t an anomaly. That is us,” she noted, acknowledging that while they might not play perfectly every night, the match set a benchmark for their potential.

Allie Sczech stood out in her starting role, leading the team with 12 kills. Sczech, a recent Baylor graduate, quickly built chemistry with setter Bergen Reilly, who recorded 36 assists. Sczech noted Reilly’s quick thinking and skills, which helped her excel in the match.

The middle blockers, Rebekah Allick and Andi Jackson, also made significant contributions. Allick notched 11 kills on a .600 hitting percentage, while Jackson added five kills and four blocks. Both players highlighted the importance of teamwork and communication among the middle blockers, stating they continually push each other to improve.

Statistics reveal that Nebraska’s defense has consistently improved this season. A recent NCAA report indicated that the Huskers have one of the highest block averages in Division I volleyball. Nebraska’s match was part of a larger weekend event that attracted over 41,000 volleyball fans, reflecting the growing popularity of women’s sports. In the past, matches were played in front of just a few thousand fans, but recent shifts indicate a rising interest.

Busboom Kelly reflected on the progress made in women’s volleyball, pushing for even higher standards. “What Nebraska does obviously sets the bar, and this weekend showed it,” she said, signaling that the program is becoming a global brand.
