Indian Coast Guard officials in West Bengal recently intercepted a fishing boat suspected of smuggling betel nuts from Bangladesh. On a tip-off, a team was dispatched and found the boat, named ‘Laxminarayan.’
After searching it thoroughly, they recovered 52 bags of betel nuts, weighing in at 2,600 kg. This operation took place on January 22, highlighting the ongoing issue of smuggling in the region.
The boat was brought to Fraserganj and docked at Benfish Fishing Jetty. It was then turned over to the Coastal Police Station for further legal action.
The Indian Coast Guard works closely with other maritime agencies to keep watch along the coastline, aiming to prevent illegal activities. Their commitment to securing the nation’s waters is crucial, especially as smuggling poses risks not just to local economies but also to national security.
