Important Update: Microsoft Teams to Disable Screen Capture During Meetings—What You Need to Know!

Microsoft is set to roll out a new Teams feature that aims to protect sensitive information shared during meetings. This feature will block users from taking screenshots. If someone tries to capture the screen, the meeting window will turn black, ensuring that private details remain secure. This update is expected to be available to Android, desktop, iOS, and web users worldwide starting in July 2025.

Microsoft announced, “The Prevent Screen Capture feature ensures that if a user attempts to take a screen capture, the meeting window will turn black.” The feature will be accessible on both Windows and Mac desktop applications as well as mobile apps for iOS and Android.

It’s important to note that while this feature may stop screenshots, users can still capture sensitive information by taking photos of their screens. Therefore, additional precautions may still be necessary.

In a similar move, Meta has introduced an “Advanced Chat Privacy” feature on WhatsApp. This function blocks attempts to save sensitive content exchanged in chats, highlighting a growing trend in the tech industry towards better privacy measures.

Microsoft is not just stopping with screen capture prevention. They are also updating other Teams functionalities. For instance, they plan to introduce a town hall screen privilege management update for Teams Rooms on Windows. Additionally, new interactive BizChat/Copilot Studio agents will be available in meetings and individual calls. A Copilot feature will also allow users to generate audio overviews of transcribed meetings. This feature will let users select speakers, adjust tone, and customize length for better clarity.

Recently, the company has reminded Microsoft 365 admins about a new protective feature against phishing in Teams Chat. This will alert users whenever a potential phishing attempt is detected, providing an added layer of security.

Microsoft Teams has seen significant growth, boasting over 320 million monthly active users across 181 markets as of last year. This surge illustrates the increasing reliance on digital communication tools, especially amid shifts toward remote work. According to a recent survey, 74% of professionals believe that flexible work arrangements will continue to be the norm even after the pandemic. This highlights the need for robust security features like those being developed by Microsoft.
