A winter storm is set to blanket our area this weekend with snow and freezing temperatures. Our teams are gearing up by salting outdoor spaces, readying snow-fighting vehicles, and keeping an eye on tracks and switches.
To keep everyone safe, expect some changes in subway, bus, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and Metro-North services. If you have to travel, here are a few tips to stay safe:
- Give yourself extra time.
- Be cautious, especially on stairs and platforms.
- Check service updates via the MTA or TrainTime apps, or visit our website.
- Reach out through our apps if you have questions.
Your safety is our priority, especially with the storm hitting hardest on Sunday and Monday. If possible, consider staying home during that time.
Subway
This weekend, some express trains will stop at local stations as a precaution. Many service changes originally planned have been canceled. For the complete list of changes, refer to the Weekender.
Buses
Local bus routes might face longer wait times. Some buses will be taken out of service to install snow chains, and articulated buses will be temporarily removed during the storm.
Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
The LIRR will operate on a modified Sunday schedule, featuring:
- No service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport.
- Reduced service on the Babylon Branch, with no direct trains to Grand Central.
Additionally, some service changes that were planned for this weekend and into next week have been canceled:
- Suspension of Brooklyn weekend service.
- Weekend bypassing at Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, and Woodside westbound.
- Busing overnight on the Montauk line.
Metro-North Railroad
Metro-North will run hourly trains on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines on Sunday. The New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury lines will stick to their usual weekend schedules.
From 2 p.m. Sunday, service on the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines will be paused. For updates, check NJTransit. On Monday, trains will follow a Saturday schedule, with more trains during rush hour.
Feel prepared and safe out there, and remember to keep up to date with service changes as the storm progresses.
