India and the European Union are teaming up to shape the future of 6G telecom technology. This partnership involves the Bharat 6G Alliance from India and the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association from Europe. Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, announced this collaboration, stating it strengthens global connectivity and reflects the growing ties between India and the EU.
Scindia emphasized that this partnership aims to push forward research in 6G technologies, ensuring that future telecom networks are safe and reliable. The goal is to create a resilient global digital landscape that benefits people everywhere, including businesses and communities.
The 6G Industry Association (6G-IA) plays a vital role in encouraging research and innovation in Europe’s mobile networks. On the other side, the Bharat 6G Alliance focuses on promoting the study and implementation of 6G technology in India.
This collaboration was highlighted shortly after the announcement of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the EU, made during the 16th India-EU Summit. This FTA marks a significant step in enhancing economic ties, following extensive negotiations that began in 2022.
Statistics show that India’s trade with the EU was around ₹11.5 lakh crore (approximately $136.54 billion) in the 2024-25 period, marking the EU as one of India’s key trading partners. Analysts suggest that this new 6G partnership could enhance trade further by integrating advanced tech cooperation with economic efforts.
As we look to the future, this collaboration positions both India and the EU at the forefront of telecom innovation, ready to address the needs of a rapidly changing digital world. As the global demand for faster and more secure communication grows, initiatives like these are essential for both trade and technological advancement.
