Guwahati: A joint special forces exercise between India and Kyrgyzstan has kicked off in Assam. This marks the 13th edition of the ‘KHANJAR’ exercise, which began at an Army base in Missamari on February 4 and will wrap up on February 17, 2026.
According to Defence PRO Lt Col Mahender Rawat, this annual event alternates between the two countries. The last iteration took place in Kyrgyzstan in March 2025. Indian troops, consisting of 20 members from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), are participating alongside an equal contingent from Kyrgyzstan’s ILBRIS Special Forces Brigade.
Exercise KHANJAR focuses on honing skills in counter-terrorism operations, especially in urban and mountainous environments. The training emphasizes advanced techniques in sniping, complex building interventions, and mountain tactics.
This collaboration not only enhances operational skills but also strengthens the defense ties between India and Kyrgyzstan. It aims to tackle common challenges like international terrorism and extremism, reflecting both nations’ commitment to regional peace and stability.
