INDIA Bloc Reacts: ‘Unwarranted’ Supreme Court Comments on Rahul Gandhi; Priyanka Gandhi Defends True Indian Identity

The recent remarks from Justice Dipankar Datta of the Supreme Court have stirred significant debate. While hearing a case related to Rahul Gandhi’s claim about Chinese territorial occupation, the judge questioned Gandhi’s credibility. He asked, “How do you know that 2,000 sq. km of Indian territory had been occupied by the Chinese? Were you there? Do you have credible proof?”

This prompted a reaction from the INDIA alliance, a coalition of several political parties. On August 5, 2025, party leaders met to discuss the judge’s comments. They issued a statement defending Rahul Gandhi’s right to speak on national issues, stating, “It’s important for leaders to hold the government accountable, especially on border security.”

Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul’s sister and Congress MP, defended him further. She emphasized that the Supreme Court judges should not determine who is a true Indian. “It is the duty of the opposition leader to question the government,” she said, asserting that her brother respects the Army and never intends to speak against it.
