India Collaborates with Iran for Safe Passage of Vessels Through Hormuz: MEA Updates

The Indian government is actively coordinating with Iranian officials to ensure the safety of its ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Recently, two Indian vessels, the VLCC Samnar Herald and Bulk Carrier Jag Arnav, reported coming under fire while passing through this critical waterway.

Fortunately, there were no injuries among the crew. The government quickly responded to the incidents, reaffirming that the safety of Indian seafarers is its top priority.

Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that 10 Indian ships have successfully navigated the Strait recently, with more on their way. He emphasized India’s commitment to facilitating safe passage through these waters and highlighted the importance of open maritime routes.

In response to the firing incident, the Indian government summoned the Iranian ambassador to express its concerns directly. This underscores India’s dedication to maintaining smooth and secure trade routes in the region.

Since the beginning of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Indian air travel from the region has remained active, with over 1.1 million passengers flying home. The Indian government continues to work on ensuring safe travel for its citizens, including those returning from conflict zones like Israel through connecting flights in Jordan and Egypt.

It’s crucial to stay updated, as these maritime incidents affect not only Indian shipping but also global supply chains. As tensions persist, the stability of maritime routes will be closely monitored by international shipping experts and governments alike.

Ensuring the safety of shipping operations in such a volatile environment is vital for economic stability, especially since about 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
