India is gearing up for the Special Olympics World Winter Games happening in Turin, Italy, from March 8 to 15. The country will send a strong team of 49 members, made up of 30 athletes and 19 support staff, to compete in six sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Floorball, Short-track Speed Skating, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing.

The send-off event took place at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and other dignitaries were there to support the athletes and wish them good luck. They praised the athletes for their hard work and determination.
At the event, Minister Mandaviya said, “Your dedication and passion inspire the nation. Fly the tricolor high with your success.” Dr. Mallika Nadda also highlighted the athletes’ resilience: “Our athletes are an inspiration. Remember your tough times; you will overcome every challenge.”
As a gesture of goodwill, the athletes received garlands and traditional Himachali woolen caps, wishing them good fortune in their competitions.
India has made significant strides in Special Olympics events over the years, and this year’s Winter Games will be another chance for these talented athletes to shine on a global platform. The country is proud of their efforts and is rallying behind them as they prepare to represent India with pride and spirit.
