India Reaffirms Commitment to Combat Climate Change, Highlights Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav’s Vision

India firmly believes in working together on global issues like climate change. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav emphasized this during a recent discussion at the 20th CII Sustainability Summit. He pointed out that while climate change poses a significant risk, developing countries face its harshest impacts—even though they contribute the least to the problem.

Yadav stated that India is committed to being part of the solution. The Prime Minister’s message is clear: India seeks cooperation through international forums. However, he criticized developed nations for not meeting their promises of providing financial help and technology to help developing countries tackle climate change.

As the most populous nation, India has already met several of its climate goals. Yadav stressed that balancing economic growth with environmental protection is vital. He called for industries to lead in green technology development and suggested that other countries look to India’s growth model. With predictions showing India could grow at around 7%, he expressed confidence that the nation will be essential for global economic recovery.

In discussions with COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago, Yadav explored advancements for the Paris Agreement and highlighted the need for fair climate financing, especially for the Global South.

The upcoming UN climate conference in Belem, Brazil, this November will occur against a backdrop of skepticism surrounding international climate efforts. Recent trends show a lack of progress, particularly after the disappointing outcomes at COP29 in Baku and ongoing geopolitical tensions.

This situation reflects a growing issue. A recent survey by the Global Climate Change Alliance showed that nearly 70% of respondents from developing nations feel abandoned in their climate journey.
