Many of those repatriated had crossed into Thailand from Myawaddy, Myanmar, where they were allegedly forced into cyber fraud work by organized trafficking groups. They were detained for violating immigration laws but were safely returned after diplomatic efforts.

Both India and Thailand are stepping up their cooperation against transnational crimes like online fraud, human trafficking, and illegal recruitment. There’s now an increased focus on sharing intelligence and monitoring trafficking routes.

The Indian Embassy in Bangkok advises citizens to be cautious with overseas job offers, especially those that seem too good to be true. High salaries without proper documentation can be a red flag. Visa-free entry to Thailand is only valid for tourism or short business trips, not for work, which can lead to serious legal and personal risks.
