Indian Army Advances Sustainability: Rs 130 Crore Deal for 113 Electric Buses from JBM Auto

New Delhi: The Indian Army is making a significant move towards sustainable transportation. They have signed a Rs 130.58 crore contract with JBM Auto Ltd for 113 electric buses and 43 fast chargers. This is a big step toward greener mobility, aligning with India’s goal of reducing carbon emissions.

This contract, finalized on October 17, 2025, is the Army’s first major step into electric vehicles. Officials believe these buses will modernize the Army’s transport fleet while also cutting down on fossil fuel use. This initiative supports India’s net-zero emissions target and reflects a growing commitment to environmental sustainability.

Experts in green technology applaud this move. Dr. Priya Sharma, an environmental specialist, notes, “Transitioning to electric vehicles not only helps reduce emissions but also promotes clean air and better health outcomes.” With air quality becoming an increasing concern globally, the Army’s decision is timely.

The buses will be deployed across various services, setting a standard in the defense sector for adopting eco-friendly technology. This initiative has also been classified as a Buy (Indian–IDDM: Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) case.
