Indian Coast Guard Welcomes New Vessel: ICGS Adamya

On September 19, 2025, the Indian Coast Guard commissioned the ICGS Adamya at Paradip Port. This ship is the first of eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs). The ceremony featured Shri Satyajit Mohanty, IRS, and Inspector General Yoginder Dhaka, among other dignitaries.

A Symbol of Strength

Named ‘Adamya,’ which means ‘indomitable,’ this vessel represents India’s commitment to protecting its maritime interests. It was designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited, showcasing the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, with over 60% of its components sourced from India.

Specifications and Features

The ICGS Adamya measures 51 meters in length and weighs approximately 320 tons. It’s equipped with two powerful 3000 KW diesel engines, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 28 knots. The ship has a range of 1,500 nautical miles at economical speeds.

One standout feature is its two indigenously developed Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP). These propellers offer enhanced maneuverability and operational flexibility. In terms of weaponry, the Adamya is armed with a 30 mm CRN-91 gun and two remote-controlled 12.7 mm machine guns. These systems are supported by advanced fire control technologies.

The ship also boasts an Integrated Bridge System and an Automated Power Management System, which streamline operations and improve efficiency on the water.

Strategic Deployment

ICGS Adamya will operate out of Paradip, under the command of Commander Coast Guard Region (North East). Its missions will include maritime surveillance and various activities crucial for safeguarding India’s maritime territory.

The Crew

The vessel’s command is led by Commandant (JG) Anurag Pandey, supported by a team of five officers and 34 crew members. With the addition of Adamya, the Indian Coast Guard enhances its capabilities to manage diverse maritime challenges.
