India wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat has announced his retirement from international cricket after a Test career spanning seven matches.
The 32-year-old made the announcement on social media, expressing gratitude toward those who supported him during his career. “With a proud heart and a sense of gratitude, I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Bharat wrote. “To play for my country has been the greatest honour of my life. This journey of mine has demanded great resilience and strength but the honour to represent India in Tests was worth every moment.”
Bharat acknowledged his family’s support, stating, “In a family of four, we all lived the same dream over two decades, a big heart to my sister, mom, and dad for creating an environment and support system they have been. I am a product of their love, discipline, and hard work.”
Bharat made his Test debut during the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy and appeared in seven matches, scoring 221 runs in 12 innings at an average of 20.09. He achieved 19 dismissals behind the stumps. Bharat was also India’s wicketkeeper for the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval.
His retirement follows that of all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who recently stepped away from international cricket. Bharat’s decision comes amid the growing influence of franchise leagues worldwide, which has affected Indian players barred from participating in overseas T20 leagues.
Shankar was picked by the Kandy Royals as an overseas star signing for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 following his retirement.
