New Delhi: The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron is set to deploy four ships for a long-range training mission in Southeast Asia starting January 7, 2026. This mission includes the ships INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and the Indian Coast Guard vessel, Sarathi. Officials highlighted that this deployment will enhance India’s maritime ties with countries in the region.
This initiative reflects the Indian Navy’s focus on excellence in training and its commitment to maritime diplomacy. The training will support a cooperative approach to regional security and goodwill. The deployment is part of the 110th Integrated Officers’ Training Course, which also brings six international officer trainees aboard, underscoring India’s dedication to building capacity among allied nations.
During their journey, the squadron will visit ports in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. They aim to expose officer trainees to various operational environments and cultures while promoting India’s “Act East” Policy. This shift in strategy emphasizes an inclusive vision for a stable Indian Ocean region.
The mission also includes personnel from the Indian Army and Air Force, fostering a sense of unity among the forces. Throughout the port visits, there will be numerous professional exchanges, training activities, and joint exercises with local naval forces. These interactions are designed to improve cooperation, mutual understanding, and share best practices at sea.
“Engaging with host navies not only enhances our operational readiness but also strengthens relationships,” an Army official noted. The aim is to build mutual trust, vital in today’s dynamic maritime environment.
