Indian Railways Boosts Daily Train Services to 11,740: What This Means for Travelers – Insights from Ashwini Vaishnaw

Indian Railways: A Modern Transformation Post-COVID-19

Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared some exciting updates about Indian Railways in Parliament. The network now operates an average of 11,740 train services daily, showing a solid recovery from the 11,283 services before the pandemic. This increase highlights the effort to adapt and improve rail travel in India.

A significant boost is seen in Mail and Express services, which have risen from 1,768 to 2,238 daily services. This leap means more options for passengers, making train travel more convenient and efficient.

To enhance safety and punctuality, Indian Railways has worked with IIT Bombay to rationalize train services and schedules. This scientific approach aims to streamline operations, allowing trains to run faster and with improved safety measures.

In addition to the regular services, there are now 164 Vande Bharat trains in operation. These modern trains offer a comfortable experience with chair cars and are designed for both long and medium-distance journeys. Notably, a Sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat has also been developed, with two units currently undergoing trials.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains come with advanced safety systems like KAVACH, crashworthiness features, and fire-resistant designs. This is part of a broader push by Indian Railways to embrace technology. Recent reports show that 80% of travelers prioritize safety when choosing modes of transportation, making these enhancements very timely.

These trains are energy-efficient, utilizing regenerative braking systems. They also include air conditioning equipped with UV-C lamps for disinfection, ensuring a healthier travel environment. Passengers can communicate with train managers in case of emergencies through an emergency talk-back unit.

Overall, the advancements in Indian Railways reflect a commitment to better services and passenger safety. With these ongoing innovations, rail travel in India is set for an even brighter future.
