Indian Railways is ramping up its infrastructure with several new projects in Northern, Southern, and Eastern zones. The goal? To modernize maintenance facilities and ease congestion on busy routes.
One significant project is in Shri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. It’s set to transform the coach maintenance capacity there, costing around ₹174.26 crore. This upgrade will introduce new washing and stabling lines and is expected to boost maintenance efficiency by handling six more trains daily. The focus is on supporting modern trains like Vande Bharat, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
In Lalgarh, Rajasthan, another project aims to improve coaching facilities, costing ₹139.68 crore. It plans to install advanced washing systems and increase the service area, ensuring quicker maintenance for more Vande Bharat trains. This enhancement is crucial, especially with the rising demand for these newer trains.
In Kerala, the doubling of the 21.10-kilometer Turavur-Mararikulam section will enhance freight and passenger services. This corridor is vital for transporting goods linked to Cochin Port, promoting smoother logistics and boosting the local economy. The project carries a price tag of ₹450.59 crore.
Additionally, a new 4.75-km bypass line in West Bengal will relieve congestion at the Asansol station, saving time and optimizing resource use, with an investment of ₹107.10 crore.
