Colombo: The Indian women’s cricket team made history by achieving their fourth score of over 300 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) within a single calendar year. They reached this milestone during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka.
Thanks to a stellar century from opener Smriti Mandhana and solid contributions from the middle order, India set a challenging total of 342/7. Their impressive performance led them to a decisive 97-run victory, securing the Women’s ODI Tri-Series title. The team’s success was also bolstered by strong bowling efforts from Sneh Rana and Amanjot Kaur.
Choosing to bat first, Mandhana and partner Pratika Rawal kicked off the innings steadily. They focused on rotating the strike and hitting boundaries when possible. Inoka Ranaweera managed to break their opening partnership of 70 runs by dismissing Pratika after she had scored a few early fours.
Mandhana’s impressive innings included her 11th ODI century. This achievement puts her just behind England’s Tammy Beaumont for the most centuries in women’s ODI cricket. She reached her century off 92 balls, striking 12 fours and two sixes. Mandhana and Pratika had a solid partnership, combining for 120 runs before Mandhana was out for 116 off 101 balls.
Other players also contributed valuable runs. Richa Ghosh scored 8, while Jemimah added 44 runs from 29 balls. Amanjot Kaur pitched in with 18 runs, helping India achieve their total of 342/7. Deepti Sharma contributed 20 not out off 14 balls, adding to the team’s strong finish.
This milestone by the Indian women’s cricket team highlights not just their talent but the growing popularity of women’s sports globally.
