Indiana Woman Charged After Gun Used in Fatal Shooting of Chicago Officer
Federal prosecutors in Indiana have charged Olivia Burgos for lying during the purchase of a firearm. This gun was reportedly used in a shooting that resulted in the death of Chicago police officer John Bartholomew and left another officer seriously injured at Swedish Hospital.
The complaint reveals that Burgos admitted to federal agents she provided false information on the paperwork required to buy a Glock 29 pistol. This weapon was traced back to her purchase in May 2024 from a gun store in Merrillville, Indiana.
According to the complaint, Burgos bought the gun for her boyfriend, referred to in documents as “Individual A,” who has a felony conviction prohibiting him from possessing firearms. Burgos also acknowledged concealing her drug issues, including a fentanyl addiction, while filling out the forms.
ATF agent William Engle stated that had Burgos been truthful, the gun sale would have been denied. Burgos now faces charges for making a material false statement in the acquisition of a firearm.
