India’s Bold Rescue Mission: Evacuating Nationals from Iran and Assisting Sri Lankan and Nepali Citizens

India is currently evacuating its citizens from Iran due to the ongoing conflict with Israel. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has set up a Telegram channel and provided emergency contact numbers for assistance.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy stated: “The Indian Embassy in Iran is evacuating all Indian nationals. For help, reach out through our Telegram channel or the following numbers: +989010144557, +989128109115, +989128109109.”

Additionally, the embassy announced that it will also assist citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka in the evacuation process, responding to requests from their governments.

This operation, named “Operation Sindhu,” was launched as the conflict in the region continues to escalate. So far, more than 500 Indian nationals have returned home under this initiative.

It’s worth noting that evacuation efforts during international conflicts aren’t new. For instance, during the 2014 crisis in Iraq, India successfully evacuated over 4,000 citizens amidst fighting.

As geopolitical situations change, many countries have shown increased readiness to assist their nationals abroad. According to a 2022 survey by the International Association for Safe Schools, 87% of parents believe it’s vital for governments to prioritize the safety of citizens overseas during conflicts.

In times like these, staying connected through social media can provide vital updates. Many individuals on platforms like Twitter are sharing experiences and information regarding the evacuation, creating a community for those affected.
