The Mumbai Police have asked comedian Samay Raina to appear before them by March 10. This is part of an investigation linked to controversial comments made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on Raina’s YouTube show, ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Ranveer Allahbadia, known for his ‘BeerBiceps’ channel, sparked a backlash over his remarks about parents and sex during the now-deleted episode of Raina’s show. As a result, two FIRs have been filed: one in Assam and one in Mumbai.
A police official mentioned they have been unable to reach Allahbadia since his phone is switched off. Teams from both Mumbai and Assam Police tried to visit his home, but it was locked. Raina’s lawyer met with police to request more time for Raina, who is currently in the United States.
Initially, Allahbadia wanted the police to take his statement at home, but that request was denied. After discussions with his lawyer, he was given until March 10 to make an appearance.
The Mumbai police have already recorded statements from eight individuals, including popular figures like Apoorva Mukhija and Ashish Chanchalani, related to the complaint filed by a BJP member. However, no FIR has been registered by the city police yet.
In a separate investigation, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has called around 50 people to share their accounts, including those who participated in Raina’s show. Recently, actor Raghu Ram, who was a judge on the show, provided his statement to the agency.
On February 10, Allahbadia publicly apologized, acknowledging his poor judgment regarding his comments. Meanwhile, Samay Raina decided to remove all episodes of ‘India’s Got Latent’ from his YouTube channel. He expressed that the recent events had been overwhelming for him and promised to cooperate with the authorities. He shared, “My only goal was to make people laugh and enjoy. I will fully support the investigations to help resolve everything fairly.”
