Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan has sent his warmest congratulations to ISRO and the Indian Navy for the successful launch of the CMS-03 communication satellite. He praised the powerful LVM3-M5 rocket for successfully placing GSAT-7R (CMS-03) into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). This satellite, the heaviest and most advanced communications tool for the Indian Navy, showcases India’s growing strengths in space technology.
Radhakrishnan highlighted the satellite’s role in improving space-based communication, connectivity, and maritime awareness across the Indian Ocean region. He noted that this achievement supports India’s push for self-reliance, known as Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He commended the hard work of Indian scientists and engineers at ISRO, who are continuously advancing space exploration.
The CMS-03 was launched on a Sunday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Weighing about 4,400 kg, it is the heaviest communication payload developed in India to date. This satellite will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s communication capabilities. It is built with advanced, indigenous components tailored to meet the Navy’s specific needs.
The launch used the same LVM3 rocket that successfully landed Chandrayaan-3 near the lunar South Pole, making this its fifth operational mission. ISRO noted that the rocket had been prepared since October 26 for this launch.
The launch sequence included eight key steps, culminating in the CMS-03 satellite being separated at an altitude of around 179 kilometers, moving at about 10 km per second. The LVM3, standing 43.5 meters tall and weighing 642 tonnes at liftoff, uses three stages of propellant to reach its destination.
According to a recent report from the Indian Space Research Organisation, this satellite will provide vital communication services not only for naval operations but also for disaster management and search and rescue missions.
