INS Surat Triumphs: Indian Navy Achieves Milestone with Successful Sea-Skimming Missile Defense Test

In a significant milestone for India’s naval capabilities, the Indian Navy recently achieved a major success with its newest guided missile destroyer, INS Surat. This ship successfully carried out a precision strike against a sea-skimming target in the Arabian Sea, showcasing India’s growing self-reliance in defense technology.

Sea-skimming missiles fly just above the water, making them challenging to detect. This test involved the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system, known for its effectiveness against various aerial threats. Notably, this test coincided with upcoming missile tests by the Pakistan Navy, signifying India’s proactive defense measures.

Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai, INS Surat is part of the Visakhapatnam-class of guided missile destroyers, with 75% of its components sourced from India. This ship is considered one of the most sophisticated destroyers globally, featuring advanced technology and smart weapons.

Internationally, the Indian Navy is also making headway. Recently, ships INS Chennai and INS Kesari participated in the AIKEYME naval exercise with the Tanzanian Navy. This collaborative effort included cultural exchanges and strategic discussions among military leaders, showcasing India’s commitment to global naval partnerships.
