Law enforcement intensified their efforts Friday night, conducting a search about two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home in Tucson, Arizona. This comes nearly two weeks after the 84-year-old was reported missing. The details that led investigators to this specific location remain unclear.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that the scene is linked to the Guthrie case but provided no further details. He mentioned they are actively working on a lead. The sheriff’s department later announced DNA that doesn’t match Nancy or close contacts has been collected from her home, and they are trying to identify it.
Nancy was last seen on January 31, and it’s believed she may have been abducted. The FBI recently released a description of a male suspect seen in surveillance video from her home. The suspect is described as having an average build and standing between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10. He was captured on footage wearing a ski mask and gloves.
Interestingly, the backpack the suspect carried is a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack, sold only at Walmart. Investigators have been looking through video from a Walmart in Tucson to gather more information. They recently found a pair of black gloves that are now being tested for DNA as well.
The FBI has raised the reward for information leading to Nancy’s location or the arrest of those involved from $50,000 to $100,000. So far, they’ve received thousands of tips, showing a strong community response.
Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and co-host of the “Today” show, has made heartfelt video pleas for her mother’s safe return. The family has shared their anguish and asked for any information that could help.
Complicating matters, the family received ransom notes demanding payment in Bitcoin. Despite offering a reward, they have received no proof of life, and deadlines mentioned in the notes have passed without updates.
