At Bethel University, faculty aren’t just teachers—they’re mentors dedicated to helping students grow. Their expertise and real-world experience influence students both in the classroom and beyond. Let’s take a look at some of the new full-time faculty joining this fall.

Diane Banigo

Diane Banigo joins Bethel as a clinical associate professor of nurse midwifery after teaching as an adjunct since 2022. With a nursing background dating back to 2003, she earned her master’s from the University of Minnesota and later completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at St. Catherine University. Diane is passionate about supporting birthing families and enjoys traveling, movie nights, and dance lessons with her sons.

Ben Blasko

As an associate professor of music and conductor of the wind symphony, Ben Blasko has a rich background in music education. His experience includes orchestrating for major brands like Marvel and Disney. Outside of music, he loves hiking, baking, and collecting vintage records. He brings his enthusiasm for film scores to his teaching and inspires students to explore the world of music creatively.

Abigail Brubaker GS’19

Returning to Bethel, Abigail Brubaker serves as an assistant professor of physician assisting. With clinical experience in hematology and oncology, she is dedicated to guiding future healthcare professionals. Her journey from student to educator encourages her to inspire others in their medical careers.

Joshua Carroll

Joshua Carroll, director of the Doctor of Ministry program, has over 20 years in pastoral ministry. He specializes in helping people discover spiritual growth and has recently revitalized a multiethnic church community in Texas. His research includes exploring connections between spirituality, psychology, and neuroscience.

Bradley Cawyer

With a strong focus on classical music, Bradley Cawyer joins as an assistant professor and director of string activities. His experience at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory has shaped his insight into music performance and teaching. Passionate about community engagement, he’s actively involved in international ministries.

Emily Conrad ’02, GS’07

Emily Conrad, a clinical assistant professor of nursing, combines 20 years of ICU experience with her passion for teaching. Having worked at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, she aims to empower the next generation of nurses. When not at work, she loves spending time outdoors and enjoys her family adventures.

Scott Dill

Scott Dill brings a unique literary perspective as an assistant professor of English and journalism. He has published work on embodiment in literature and is currently researching reader identification as an aesthetic issue. In his free time, he balances family life with academic pursuits.

Mengkun Du

New to Bethel, Mengkun Du specializes in math and computer science. His focus on statistics and machine learning helps students understand data patterns. He enjoys photography and spending time outdoors with his family.

Rushika Hage

Rushika Hage joins as a history professor, focusing on medieval history. She co-authored books on local history and is currently a Ph.D. candidate, exploring 15th-century maps. Her passion for history inspires her students to connect with the past.

Dave Kansas

With a background as a journalist for global publications, Dave Kansas is now an associate professor of English and journalism. His experience in the field enriches his teaching, preparing students for careers in journalism. He’s also passionate about cycling and trivia.

Amie Lorence Grubidge ’12, GS’13

Amie Grubidge, an education professor, has dedicated her career to diverse learners. Her dual background in communications and special education equips her to guide teachers in meeting various student needs. Art and nature are her favorite escapes when she’s away from work.

Anna Johnson

As an associate professor of psychological sciences, Anna Johnson’s research focuses on resilience in children and caregivers. Her rich teaching background shapes her current role at Bethel, where she encourages students to explore the outdoors and their academic interests.

Kristie Johnson

Kajsa Larson

Kajsa Larson joins Bethel as a Spanish professor, specializing in literature and culture. After years teaching in Kentucky, she returns to Minnesota, where she enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her family.

Caleb Molstad

Anna Pexa

Kate Rynders ’18

Kate Rynders, an assistant professor of chemistry, is keen on teaching organic chemistry. Her mission is to help students appreciate how chemistry connects to everyday life while she enjoys running and literature in her free time.

Katie Friesen Smith S’95, S’08

Katie Friesen Smith focuses on spiritual growth and leadership through her roles as a teacher and mentor. She loves exploring both nature and literature, finding wonder in every aspect of life.

Sara Heacox Sosa S’19

Sara Heacox Sosa, program manager for Children’s, Youth, and Family Ministry, brings three decades of ministry experience. Her innovative spirit shapes her approach to education and leadership, encouraging others to find new paths in their work.

Heather Vedders ’02

With a nursing background and a passion for teaching, Heather Vedders has focused on pediatrics throughout her career. She enjoys outdoor activities with her family and values quality time spent in nature.
