We’ve waited a long time for the Ferrari Luce. The buzz started back in January 2018 when Sergio Marchionne, the former chairman and CEO of Ferrari, teased an electric supercar at the North American International Auto Show. Marchionne confidently stated, “If there is an electric supercar to be built, then Ferrari will be the first.”
While Ferrari wasn’t the first to launch an electric supercar, it has certainly created a wave of excitement. The journey has included hints, teasers, and strategic reveals. Last October, they showcased the powertrain, and in February, we got a peek at the interior designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson.
Fast forward to today: the Luce has finally been unveiled in Rome. This car, which means “light” in Italian, marks a significant milestone for Ferrari.
Under the hood, it boasts impressive numbers. With four motors—one for each wheel—the Luce generates over 1,000 horsepower. The rear axle alone provides 832 hp and 7,750 Nm of torque. It can reach 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 192 mph. Surprisingly, this hypercar comes with five seats, a first for the brand.
The Luce packs a massive 122 kWh battery, one of the largest in any production EV. It can charge at up to 350 kW and offers a range of over 329 miles per charge. This all-wheel-drive vehicle shares some design elements with the Purosangue SUV and weighs about 4,982 pounds—only around 200 pounds more than the SUV.
Experts in the automotive industry are watching closely. Research from J.D. Power indicates that electric car sales are expected to double by 2025, driven by improving technology and consumer interest. With the Luce, Ferrari aims to capture a market that is rapidly evolving.
