The environmental field is changing, and so is the need for skilled professionals. There’s a growing demand for people who can manage carbon emissions, ensure compliance with regulations, and help organizations move toward net-zero goals. The EP®(GHG) designation has been created to prepare these workers for the climate challenges ahead.
“Professional certification is key for effective climate action. Mitigation efforts depend on those who measure and verify them,” says Michael Gillenwater, Executive Director of the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute.
The EP®(GHG) designation is a game-changer for greenhouse gas management. It sets a standard for expertise and trustworthiness in environmental reporting worldwide. This initiative comes from a collaboration between ECO Canada and GHGMI, along with a Technical Working Group made up of seasoned professionals. They built the standards and ethical framework that define this important designation.
As the world focuses more on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) disclosures and carbon markets, the need for qualified professionals is urgent. Currently, there’s no official credential that ensures both technical expertise and ethical practices in greenhouse gas management. Kevin Nilsen, President of ECO Canada, highlights, “We aim to create a global community of capable GHG professionals, enhancing standards and job opportunities.”
The new EP®(GHG) credential aims to fill this gap, providing a global benchmark for professionals in government, industry, and consulting. It boosts the credibility and trust in international climate reporting. According to Lisa Hanle, a member of the Technical Working Group, “This certification sets a standard that enhances the consistency of climate practices around the globe.”
The Technical Working Group is composed of experts in carbon management, sustainability, and environmental reporting. Their combined experience ensures that the EP®(GHG) designation meets real-world needs. Graham Harris, another group member, emphasizes the importance of having accredited professionals approach climate challenges with integrity.
The partnership between ECO Canada and GHGMI unites two leaders in the environmental field. GHGMI has built a vast network of GHG experts, while ECO Canada contributes in setting global standards for environmental jobs. Together, they aim to bolster public confidence in greenhouse gas management.
With the EP®(GHG) designation, professionals can expect recognition for their skills regardless of their educational background. This is a crucial step in ensuring effective climate action. According to recent surveys, nearly 70% of companies are prioritizing sustainability, yet many lack the skilled workforce needed to back it up. This shows a significant gap that the EP®(GHG) designation seeks to bridge.
