Kia has just unveiled its new electric van, the PV5. This mid-size model is the first of a series of electric vans aimed at transforming the market. The PV5 is set to compete with popular vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.Buzz and Ford E-Transit.
We first encountered the PV5 concept earlier this year at CES. It’s part of Kia’s innovative Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy, designed specifically for electric vehicles. This dedicated platform will support the entire lineup, which includes other models like the PV7 and PV1.
Kia showcased the final design of the PV5 recently. The van will come in various options, such as Passenger and Cargo versions, making it versatile for families and businesses alike.
The look of the PV5 is sleek and modern, breaking away from typical commercial vehicle designs. Kia describes it as having a “contemporary design” that stands out.
The Passenger model boasts large windows that enhance visibility and contribute to its modern aesthetic. Rugged-looking features, like black cladding around the wheel arches, give it a sturdy, off-road appearance.
The Cargo model shares a similar design, but its boxy shape maximizes interior space for deliveries and adventures. It features convenient twin side-opening doors for easy loading and unloading.
More details about the PV5, including engine specs and seating configurations, will be revealed on Kia’s upcoming EV Day on February 24, with official info following on February 27.
Kia will also introduce its EV4 sedan and hatchback models, alongside a more budget-friendly EV2 concept.
This week, the PV5 was spotted in the US, hinting at its growing presence. The basic Cargo model measures about 177.2 inches long, but the larger Passenger and Cargo versions will have more space. For comparison, the VW ID.Buzz and Ford E-Transit are larger, showcasing Kia’s unique approach to mid-size vans.
