The Vande Bharat sleeper train is set to change how we travel by train in India. This innovative service from Indian Railways promises to offer faster and more comfortable journeys.
The sleeper train will run primarily between New Delhi and Howrah, covering approximately 1,449 kilometers in under 15 hours. It boasts a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour, making it quicker than the current Rajdhani and Duronto Express trains, which take 17 and 17.4 hours, respectively. Built using advanced technology by BEML and the Integral Coach Factory, these trains aim to enhance passenger comfort and efficiency.
Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the train in September 2024, and while an official launch date hasn’t been announced yet, anticipation is high. Stops along the way will include important stations such as Kanpur Central, Prayagraj Junction, DD Upadhyay Junction, Gaya Junction, Dhanbad Junction, and Asansol Junction, making it accessible to a broader range of travelers.
Pricing for the sleeper train is competitive, with AC 3-tier fares expected to be around 3,000 rupees, AC 2-tier at 4,000 rupees, and first-class AC at about 5,100 rupees. This pricing aims to attract both budget-conscious travelers and those seeking a little extra comfort.
Travel times are designed with convenience in mind. The train will leave New Delhi at 5 PM and arrive in Howrah the next morning at 8 AM. The return journey follows the same schedule, allowing passengers to travel overnight and arrive refreshed.
As the Indian Railways continues to modernize, there’s growing interest in how passenger experiences can improve. A recent survey indicated that over 60% of rail travelers desire faster services and more comfort, which this sleeper train aims to address.
In the broader context of transportation, the Vande Bharat sleeper train represents India’s push for modernization. In the past, long-distance train journeys often meant discomfort and long wait times. With innovations like the Vande Bharat, the future looks promising for rail travel in India.
As this development unfolds, travelers are eagerly discussing their expectations on social media, highlighting how such services could redefine long-distance train travel in the country. The excitement surrounding the Vande Bharat sleeper train might just be the start of a new era for Indian Railways.
