WACO, Texas – Iowa State faced another tough match, losing 3-0 to No. 20 Baylor. This marked the Cyclones’ third straight defeat.
Baylor’s Callie Conrad shined, scoring two goals in the first half. The Bears added a third in the second half, solidifying their win. Iowa State struggled offensively, even though senior Taylor Spitzer led with three shot attempts.
In goal, Kasey Cannistraro made eight saves, showcasing her skills despite the team’s challenges. The Bears had the upper hand with 16 shots compared to Iowa State’s 10, and they also secured more corner kicks.
The first half was slow, with both teams trading possession. Baylor scored first in the 21st minute thanks to Conrad, who struck again in the 34th. Despite some chances, Iowa State couldn’t find the back of the net.
In the second half, Baylor increased their offensive pressure, resulting in another goal in the 72nd minute. Coach Fannon noted that while the team wasn’t at their best, they need to quickly focus on their next game.
Interestingly, the Cyclones have encountered a rough patch after a strong start to the season. This trend mirrors a bigger issue in sports where teams struggle with consistency. For instance, in the current sports season, about 40% of teams don’t perform as well in their subsequent games after winning streaks.
As they prepare for their next matchup against No. 7 TCU on Sunday, October 5th, the Cyclones will need to regroup. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
