Do you use your iPhone as an alarm clock? You’re not alone! But there’s a glitch that might cause you to oversleep or miss important events.

Recently, iPhone users on TikTok have been buzzing about a bug affecting the alarm feature, and some videos went viral. Users report that their alarms are either silent or don’t go off at all.
One user shared, “I’ve trusted my iPhone for alarms for 10 years. Suddenly, I woke up an hour and a half late for work because my alarm didn’t ring!” TikTok user @brunson_state.
Another user, Alexie Armour, mentioned, “If your iPhone alarms haven’t been working, you’re not imagining things.” She shared that this issue cost her a $500 parking fee at the airport after missing her ride.
The comment sections on these videos are filled with frustrated users echoing similar worries. “I thought I was going crazy!” is a common line.
Many users believe the problem comes from a setting called “Attention Aware,” introduced with iOS 17 in 2023. This feature uses the iPhone’s TrueDepth camera to see if you’re looking at your device and automatically adjusts alarm sounds based on that.
If it thinks you’re awake, it might mute alarms, causing some to wake up late. “It’s like AI deciding if it should sound your alarm,” said Armour. “Why would you have a feature that can silence alarms?”
This alarm issue reportedly began in April 2024. Even then, news outlets confirmed that Apple was aware and looking into it.
While Apple has been working on fixes, some users still face the problem in newer iOS updates. It remains unclear if this is an old issue resurfacing or something new. Apple hasn’t provided a recent update.
Fortunately, there’s a simple fix. You can turn off the “Attention Aware Features” setting:
1. Open “Settings”
2. Tap “Accessibility”
3. Select “Face ID & Attention”
4. Toggle off “Attention Aware Features”
This option can also be found in “Voice Control” within “Accessibility.”
Additionally, adjust your alarm volume by checking the “Ringtone and Alerts” slider in “Sound & Haptics.” You might want to turn off “Change with Buttons” to prevent accidental volume changes.
If you want to be extra sure of waking up on time, consider setting alarms on multiple devices or using different apps. This is especially useful for early flights or important meetings.
And for peace of mind, think about getting a classic alarm clock to avoid the tech troubles!
